Description
The Workbench is a hybrid of features taken from two historically traditional types of workbenchs: the English and the French. The dark veins and weathering of the Jarrah timber gives a glimpse into it’s history as this timber was once used as the seating for the E.J. Whitten grandstand at Footscray Oval and then donated to Victoria University in hope that it may be reused for another purpose. Much research went into the design of the workbench and most decisions concerning the form of the piece were made based on the workbench’s function, rather than aesthetics.
