Winner of The Craftsmanship Award – Student
The desktop grain direction ran different to the sides, so to allow for movement in the timber I created my own dominos that were much wider. The extra width allowed me to cut a slot in them with the domino machine. The brass pins would sit in the slot and move as the timber expanded and contracted. The dominos were first attached to the sides with the brass pins. I hammered them against a hard surface to expand the brass and lock it into place (no glue was used) the desktop was then attached later with PVA. The base included compound angles as the legs projected outwards in 2 directions.
